My Business Journey In Brief

My first business was a mobile fruit and vegetable round with my flatmates shortly after I left University. We had the Robin Hood like idea of selling at high prices in well off areas then at close to cost price in poorer areas. What happened, was in the affluent areas no-one would pay a penny extra and in the poorer areas no-one cared about price.

I learnt two important lessons. Firstly, business plans don’t always turn into reality, and secondly, a quality product and great customer relationships are what keep people coming back, again and again.

My last business was an award-winning technology marketing agency. Our clients included leading tech businesses like IBM, Microsoft, SAP, SAS Institute, and VM Ware. I loved working in the technology sector because things were always changing. In 2011, after more than 20 years, I sold the business.

Today I work as a LinkedIn Coach and Trainer, teaching small and medium sized businesses from 1-250 employees, across a wide range of sectors, how to use LinkedIn to uncover new business opportunities. 

When I am not working, I enjoy getting outdoors, and when the British weather permits, playing tennis. I am married with two grown up daughters, one in Bristol, one in New York. My wife is an accountant for a charity and keeps my books in order too.
